Carol Moore's Beach Moments from August 3, 2008

Raspberry skies
summer sun beginning to dissolve
turning left
we begin an after dinner walk
sand sculpture turtle
child size labyrinth
dug deeply into the sand
with three feet walls
alligator scupture
lazily spread across sand
two year old child
wet hair sticking to her face
sitting in a large wading pool
carved out of sand
a pit with sand walls
two layers of beach chairs
on right and left
of the green sea turtles nest
Miss Jan telling us the eggs
laid 61 days ago
may hatch this evening
incubation period is 56 days
we walk back
Maggie walking the labyrinth
telling me why the sky is red
wondering about ice cream
as she sleeps
I wake to see stars falling
we walk this morning
sand cool under our feet
Miss Jan walking towards
the sea turtle nest
broom in her hand
she invited us to sit
wait and watch
as stars fall from the summer sky
